Lauren Brotherton
Integrative Counsellor
I’m Lauren, an integrative counsellor, and I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply, particularly when experiences from the past seem to be affecting how they feel, behave or relate to others today.
You might find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling with low self-esteem or confidence, overthinking situations, worrying about rejection or abandonment, or being particularly hard on yourself. Sometimes you may know that something needs to change but not fully understand why you react or feel the way you do.
A big part of how I work is helping you make sense of this.
I believe that understanding where our patterns come from can be incredibly powerful. The way we respond to relationships, conflict, closeness, criticism and uncertainty often hasn't appeared from nowhere. Our early experiences and relationships can influence the beliefs we develop about ourselves and other people, and these can continue to shape us well into adulthood.
My approach is integrative, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on you and what you need. This includes Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic approaches. I also have a particular interest in attachment, childhood experiences, relationship patterns, self-esteem and understanding the ways our past can continue to show up in the present.
Therapy with me isn't about sitting across from someone who simply analyses you. I want our sessions to feel human, collaborative and supportive. We can explore what has happened in your life, but we will also look at what is happening for you now and what you would like to be different.
For some people, therapy is about processing difficult experiences. For others, it is about finally understanding why certain situations affect them so strongly. You may want to feel more secure in relationships, develop greater confidence, quieten a critical inner voice, establish healthier boundaries or simply feel more comfortable being yourself.
Whatever brings you to therapy, I will meet you with warmth, curiosity and without judgement. We can work together to understand the experiences and patterns that have shaped you, while helping you develop a healthier and more compassionate relationship with yourself and the people around you.
I hold a degree in Integrative Counselling from Coventry University and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).I founded Bellemind because I’m passionate about helping people understand themselves more deeply, recognise the patterns that may be holding them back, and make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives
